AN AMERICAN IN PARIS

April 18-23, 2017

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is the new Tony Award®-winning musical about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl, and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war.

Acclaimed director/choreographer and 2015 Tony Award®-winner Christopher Wheeldon brings the magic and romance of Paris into perfect harmony with unforgettable songs from George and Ira Gershwin in the show that earned more awards than any other musical in the 2015 season!

The New York Times raves, “AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is a triumph! Pure joy!” and the Wall Street Journal declares, “Once you’ve seen it, you’ll find it hard to settle for less ever again.” Don’t miss this stunning Broadway hit when it arrives in Tempe on its first national tour!

STORY An American in Paris tells the romantic story of a recently separated Army veteran who tries to start over by moving to Paris. During his journey he comes across a French girl, their paths intertwine as both are tasked with starting anew in a post-World War II landscape.

What is it like? An American in Paris is a loving tribute to the 1951  lm of the same name and just about everything in the show has a spring in its step. This is very much a traditional Broadway musical full of stellar choreography, romance and joy. This classic tale of youth in Paris in the 20th century has been reworked to spark the imagination of those in the 21st century, coupled with a brilliant Gershwin score and an exciting path of production in both Paris and New York.

Is it good for kids? Young children won’t be interested in the postwar time period in which the story takes place. Parents might consider viewing the  lm with their children to help decide if An American in Paris will hold their attention.
